- Description:
-
This course focuses on various aspects of geoenvironmental engineering that deals with subsurface contamination and measures that lead to groundwater and soil cleanup.
Seminars will include lectures, measurements in laboratory, calculations, and modelling.

-
Lectures:
1/ Geochemistry background, soil colloids
2/ Distribution of contaminants in the porous media (soil vadose zone, groundwater aquifer). Measurements of the parameters for modelling of contaminant transport and fate in the subsurface. Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids.
3/ Toxic compounds in the subsurface: Overview of toxic compounds that occur in the subsurface, sources of toxic compounds, impact on the human body and living organisms
4/ Relevant environmental legislation and regulations
5/ Contaminated site characterization
6/ Monitoring strategies
